… A 5-foot winter drawdown to control Eurasian Water Milfoil WILL NOT be requested for the 2019-2020 winter season.

Greetings to all Minong Flowage Stakeholders:

The minimum threshold required in our 5-year Aquatic Plant Management plan is about 100 acres.

The 2019 acreage identified by Matt Berg’s EWM survey is 85 acres.  A map of Matt’s finding can be found on our website via the following link: Minong Flowage EWM Bed Maps 8-14-19

Therefore, by definition, a lake-wide action to control EWM is not needed at this time.

It is interesting to note that the 2018 survey identified 142 acres, so EWM retracted by about 60%.  A likely factor for this reduction is water clarity which seems to have decreased this season.  This clarity reduction could be due to the high rainfall activity thus far this year.

The MFA Board of Directors will continue to investigate the parameters of this complex issue as we look forward to the 2020 season.

Sincerely,
The Minong Flowage Association’s Board of Directors
